What are we on about here?

This site is, in part, National Bureau of Standards fan fiction. Almost all of the imagery you'll see is in the public domain, drawn from NBS reports going back to the institution's founding in 1901. We use those images to set a tone: rigorous, curious, and a little weird — because the future has always been a little weird.

The Doors to AI Project's working bet is that writers, artists, and other professional imaginers can be a sounding board for the moral and ethical questions that come with building robotics and artificial intelligence. We collect serious work on AI, then invite serious work in response from people whose job it is to imagine.
